I was the Assistant Chief at this department. It was an all volunteer service that became Caddo Fire District 9. Later it was taken over by Caddo Fire District 5. The people who volunteered here were dedicated and exceptional people who did a lot with very little. Before there was a Caddo Fire District 5 or 6 in the south end of the parish Dixie Garden Volunteer Fire Department responded as far as the Red River Parish Line. The only thing left of the old department now is that the former chief of the department is a board member on Caddo Fire District 5. He is a good and devout man who has unselfishly served the citizens for years. Some of my fondest memories are there. My son will always remember us taking Santa Claus to Hamel's Park on the fire truck with the lights and sirens blaring.
